Local high schools kickoff new season

    With students now back to school, the regular season is now in full swing for boys and girl soccer squads in southern Aroostook County. The following is a recap of games played through Saturday, Aug. 31.

Boys soccer
Easton 4, Hodgdon 0
    At Hodgdon Friday, the Hawks (0-3) were swept on the season by Easton (5-0-1). Earlier in the season, the Hawks fell 3-1 at Easton.
    Logan Halverson scored two goals for Easton, while goalie Jake Flewelling stopped two of three shots faced.
    For Hodgdon, Blake Woods set back 6-of-12 shots faced.

SACS 14, Katahdin 1
    At Stacyville Thursday in a season opening game for both squads, the visiting Warriors (1-0) scored early and often en route to the lopsided victory of Katahdin (0-1). SACS out shot Katahdin 19-4, and held a 5-0 edge in assists. Individual goals scored were not provided to the newspaper.
Madawaska 3, Houlton 0
    At Madawaska lastTuesday, Ian Lee scored two goals and added an assist. Sam Cyr and Travis Thibeault each added a goal, while Jake Gendreau had an assist. Tim Deschenes made four saves on four shots for the 2-0 Owls. Kole Buzzeo made 7 saves on 11 shots for the defending state champions from Houlton (0-1).

Girls soccer
Easton 4, Hodgdon 0
    At Hodgdon Friday, the visiting Bears (3-3) romped to a 4-0 shutout over Hodgdon (0-3). Easton’s Kylee Carter had two goals, while Taylor Brown and Cassie Buck each added a solo goal. Valerie Estabrook stopped 31 shots in goal for the Hawks.
SACS 5, Katahdin 0
    At Stacyville Thursday, Kennedi Smith scored two goals, while Katie Prescott, Cassidy Lyons and Chloe Raymond each added a goal apiece for Southern Aroostook. Marissa Boulier had eight saves in net for the Warriors, while Courtney Stevens made 20 saves for Katahdin.
Madawaska 3, Houlton 1
    At Madawaska Tuesday, Desirea Belanger scored two first-half goals to lift Madawaska to victory in its home opener. Aspen Cote also had a first-half goal for Madawaska (1-1). Alexis Levesque made seven saves on 14 shots. Katie Condon tallied the goal for Houlton (0-1).
