Chamber serves 13 communities

The Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce, 3 Houlton Road, Presque Isle, exists to promote the commercial, agricultural and civic interests of Aroostook, with special emphasis on the 13 communities it serves.

CACC, formerly the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce, changed its name to better reflect the area and activities it supports. The Chamber is a not-for-profit owned by its business members and supporting communities. It’s grown from the Merchant’s Association of Presque Isle which was formally established on Jan. 21, 1916.
It serves: Ashland, Blaine, Castle Hill, Chapman, Easton, Mapleton, Mars Hill, Masardis, Oxbow, Portage Lake, Presque Isle, Washburn and Westfield. With increasing use of electronic communications, it’s easier to stay in touch.
“If a local business does not have an item in stock, they’ll most likely order it for you. This way the local store receives credit for the sale while online sales are not credited to the area where the goods are delivered. Local shopping supports many aspects of the local economy,” said Theresa Fowler, CACC executive director.
CACC keeps a calendar of events on its website for residents and tourists to learn what’s going on locally. The calendar’s kept as up-to-date as possible, using data provided by area businesses and organizations.
“We are frequently asked what is going on in the region. If your organization is planning an event, we can help promote it,” said Fowler.
”It’s important that businesses inform us of new services being offered, relocations and changes in hours, etc. We receive calls if customers are unable to contact a business. New businesses are supported with a ribbon-cutting and six-month free membership. During those six months your business is listed on our website, the contact information is included in our newsletter and you’re eligible for member discounts on a variety of advertising options,” said Fowler.
The Chamber provides resources and services for members at an affordable price. Benefits range from information and contact data to reduced postage fees and group medical insurance. Customers are referred to member businesses daily.
Officials work with organizers, assisting with hosting successful events. Chamber committees often need volunteers beyond the board of directors and welcome the public’s help.
    Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday-Friday. FMI, call 764-6561 or visit www.centralaroostookchamber.com.
