Island Falls Notes

On Sunday, Aug. 31, a “Sorry you are leaving” dinner was very much enjoyed at the Maine Slice, a great restaurant beside the Vo-Jo-Wa golf course here in Island Falls with members of the Giles family participating, which included Lois (Giles) Green and husband, Galen; Kay (Giles) Rideout; Jan (Giles) Greeley; aunt, Clara (Hansen) Clark; Muriel (Giles) Walton; and Riva, invited guest.

Muriel has since departed for Atlanta, Ga., with great memories of the good food, good company and the many friends they all saw outside the restaurant who were getting ready to line up for the Sunday golf scramble. All were happy to see Muriel before she left the next day.

Gail (Webb) Davis and husband, Brian, who have been here several weeks, have returned to their home in Columbia, S.C. While here they spent time at the Webb cottage on Pleasant Pond and enjoyed the good weather and swimming.

I had the good luck a few days ago to  see two fawns (still with their spots) dash out of the woods on one side of my back lawn and frolic, leap and run like crazy all over the area. Kept an eye out for their mother and, sure enough, before long she showed up and began grazing quietly while the little ones ran from one part of the lawn to the other, never seeming to get tired. After about 20 minutes or so, as it was getting darker, they suddenly disappeared into the woods. Hope I will see them again soon.

I haven’t seen any hummingbirds lately,  so perhaps they have left for warmer climes already. I put out fresh syrup for them anyway in case they return.
