UMPI volleyball athletes recognized with post-season awards

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The American Collegiate Athletic Conference released its All-ACAA volleyball teams Monday and two University of Maine at Presque Isle athletes received honors.

Freshman Miranda Washinawatok was named to the first team and also received Freshman of the Year honors. Teammate Maddi Thweatt received honorable mention.

Washinawatok led the Owls with 256 kills, which was good for fourth overall in the ACAA. Her .140 attack percentage placed her in the top 15 of the conference, while her 261 digs tied her for 10th. Washinawatok also led the Owls with 14 solo blocks and accumulated 37 service aces this season.

Thweatt finished second on the team with 234 kills, which ranked fifth overall in the ACAA. She led the Owls with 264 digs, the ninth highest total in conference. Thweatt collected 12 solo blocks and four assisted blocks on the season, finishing one behind Washinawatok for the team lead. She ended the season with 31 service aces.

Both Washinawatok and Thweatt played in every set for the Owls this season.
