BREWER, Maine — The Greater Houlton Track & Field team kicked off the competitive season with an impressive showing at the Brewer Community School on April 22 competing against a deep field of regional talent. The boys team secured a fourth-place finish with 63.33 points, while the girls took sixth overall with 46 points.
The boys’ side was highlighted by a dominant victory in the 4×800 relay, where the team of Logan Witmer, Wyatt Quint, Brayden Drake and Nathan Brady took first place with a time of 9 minutes, 22.28 seconds.
Individual standout James Brady had a stellar afternoon, winning the javelin with a throw of 135 feet, 1 inch and scoring high in the 1,600 (second) and 3,200 (third).

Brayden Drake also stood atop the podium, capturing first place in the 400 dash with a blistering 55.21 seconds. The time currently stands as the No. 2 overall best in Class C so far in this young season.
Freshman Micah Gilmour brought home the team’s first ever points in the boys pole vault, establishing the program record at 8 feet and completing for the first a full set of records for our schools.
For the girls, Andrea Ross proved to be a powerhouse across multiple disciplines. Ross finished second in both the 1,600 and 3,200 runs and tied for third in the high jump.
Hurdler April Mazur also provided significant scoring, taking third in the 100-meter hurdles (19.85 seconds) and fifth in the 300 hurdles.

The Lady Shires also saw points come in from the 1,600 racewalk for the first time in a few seasons with the duo of Faith Schools and Hannah Kowalski earning third- and fifth-place points respectively.
