The Covenant Church of New Sweden will celebrating their 1886 founding this summer and fall.
Church members plan four different events, starting with a pig roast on the church grounds at 40 Westmanland Road.
“Noel’s Famous Pig Roast” will take place during Midsommar on Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. until sold out. The dine-in or carry-out meal will also include salads, desserts and beverages, all for $15.
The public is welcome to attend one or all of these community events. Whether a local resident, church member, friend or new to the area, the church invites all to join them as they celebrate through story, song and good food. The celebrations focus on the church, its history of dedicated pastors and vigorous communities through the decades to today.
Inside the church will be a timeline of events and people who comprise its history, from the first Swedish immigrant founders through the current congregation. The timeline briefly outlines by decade the changing faces and events with photos, church programs and historic documents.
From immigrant-to-citizen stories, through a wealth of joys and achievements, learn how this small faith community is still evolving today.
Great food, stimulating conversations, lilting music and good fun await. All celebrations will take place on the church grounds.
Other coming events include the following.
– Saturday, Aug. 15, time to be announced: music concert
– Sunday, Aug. 16, 10 a.m.: Sunday service, including a message by Covenant Conference Superintendent Howard Burgoyne and former pastors’ greetings, either in person or via video
– Sunday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m.: Sunday service, with a guest speaker focused on missions.
