Caribou VFW receives credit union funding

The County Federal Credit Union has awarded a $2,600 community mini-grant to the Lister Knowlton Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Caribou in recognition of the organization’s unwavering commitment to supporting local veterans and their families.

The grant will help the VFW build a memorial platform to display the POW/MIA flags, allowing community members to reflect on the sacrifice of those who have served. The project will incorporate Loring Job Corps students from the masonry, electrical and carpentry programs.

“The members of the Lister Knowlton VFW of Caribou are so very honored to have been selected for this mini grant, as this much-needed funding will directly go into our ongoing renovations of the post home and, more importantly, the development of a veteran’s museum,” said Post Commander Roger Felix.

“In addition, a portion of this grant will also go to our ongoing renovations and installation of the six military branch flag poles at the downtown Caribou Honor Roll. We salute The County Federal Credit Union for its willingness to join our mission to ensure all remember that freedom is not free.”

The VFW continues its mission of providing assistance, advocacy, and programs that honor and serve those who have sacrificed for the nation. Through community events, veteran outreach, and ongoing support services, the Lister Knowlton VFW plays a vital role in improving the lives of veterans throughout Aroostook County.

“The men and women who have served our country deserve our gratitude every day,” said Kerri Watson-Blaisdell, vice president of marketing at The County Federal Credit Union. “The Lister Knowlton VFW has long been a cornerstone of support for our local veterans, and we are honored to help further their mission through our Community Mini-Grant program. Investing in organizations like the VFW is an investment in the people who have given so much to protect our freedoms.”

The County Federal Credit Union’s community mini-grant program provides funding to local nonprofit organizations and community groups whose work strengthens their communities. The program reflects the credit union’s longstanding commitment to giving back and supporting initiatives that improve quality of life across northern Maine.

“We’re grateful for the work the Lister Knowlton VFW does every day to ensure our veterans know they are valued, supported, and never forgotten,” Watson-Blaisdell said. “We hope this grant helps them continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have served.”
