To the editor:
I had no plans for an addition to my previous letter on walking treasures in the Star City, but this morning while walking a sound came drifting over the lightly fog-laden air that took me back to my childhood.
For those of us who like to read or anyone who uses the many services provided today by the Mark & Emily Turner Library in Presque Isle, July is definitely a month to celebrate. The Presque Isle Library first opened its doors on July 1, 1908, with 2,000 books.
The Presque Isle Police Department is happy to see all our citizens enjoying the summer.
We’d like to take the opportunity to remind folks of some tips for summer safety.
When Wyatt and I returned home from the Houlton Humane Society, we excitedly told my husband, Matthew, and Wyatt’s two older siblings, Anna and Walker, all about Dexter. I showed them a video of Dexter that I had taken while Wyatt was petting him through the fence and shared what CJ had told us about him.
It is one of the last spring flowers to bloom. Driving along a street in the Star City or its environs, these “blossoms” can be seen. Closer inspection reveals a message of accomplishment: a young person has passed a milestone and is moving on to a new adventure in learning to live in the future.
Gas prices have hit an all time high. In addition, some people still have concerns about COVID-19 and now monkey pox. So, what do we do this summer? Why not consider a “staycation”?
Nature has its own ideas of restoring order. Sometimes that reaction can take a few decades to be visible. But when it happens it can bite. It is often the bite that can be misunderstood.

The morning of the Fourth of July I sat on our deck watching the flags on Main Street that some patriotic heroes had placed.

The tail has been wagging the dog in the U.S. for a long time now, at least the last six years.
As I write this column inflation is at an all-time high, prices soaring skyward, product shortages common, people flinch as they fill their cars and we’re all making nips and tucks to our budgets.
