Foreclosure workshop planned
Aroostook County Action Program, Inc. (ACAP) will be holding a free foreclosure prevention workshop at their main office at 771 Main St. in Presque Isle. This workshop will be held on Saturday, June 26, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
“The workshop is open to anyone seeking information and a general understanding of foreclosures and the available tools for assistance in preventing a foreclosure,” said Eric Cogswell, HUD foreclosure counselor at ACAP. Topics will cover current foreclosure mitigation programs being offered by lenders and the federal government. Cogswell added “a representative from Pine Tree Legal Assistance will be there to talk about Maine’s new foreclosure process.”
Cogswell stated that similar workshops are being held throughout the state this summer. Cogswell said that HUD counselors in Maine attend meetings to review and exchange the latest information and remedies made available from mortgage lenders and state and federal regulators.
“The Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection and Maine Housing provide support to the Maine Housing Counseling Network,” added Cogswell.
Workshop attendees will have an opportunity to speak with a HUD-approved foreclosure counselor one-on-one or may opt to set up an appointment for counseling services. Free ounseling is available with no qualifying income limits. Contact Cogswell at 768-3023 or 800-432-7881.
