“It was kind of brisk early that morning but after 10 a.m. we saw a steady stream of sledders,” said Dwight Stickles, a member of the Caribou Snowmobile Club, regarding the Jan. 23 annual trail-side hotdog roast sponsored by the local club.

Snowmobilers from Madawaska took advantage of a bright, brisk Saturday morning to ride the local trails, stopping in Axel Siding to partake in the annual Trail-Side Hotdog Roast, sponsored by members of the Caribou Snowmobile Club, Jan. 23.
The event, which took place in Axle Siding, was deemed a success. According to Stickles, “We actually saw more snowmobilers from ‘away’ stop for a rest and a hotdog than local sledders.” Stickles said there were people from Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut who were out enjoying the local trails. A large contingency of sledders from the Madawaska Club also stopped to enjoy the trail-side hotdog roast.
Stickles stated local group appreciated the snowsledders who stopped by and generously contributed towards the maintenance of the Caribou snowmobile trail system.
Area businesses that donated items to help with the success of the annual event included: County Sports, Peterson’s Septic Service, Plourde & Plourde, Reno’s Pizza, Save-A-Lot, Paradis’ Shop n’ Save , Wal-Mart and Tim Hortons.
The Caribou Snowmobile Club meets monthly at the Caribou Recreation and Wellness Center. The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Club members will participate in a potluck supper prior to the business meeting.
