Julie E. Sawyer and Zachary D. Powers, of Presque Isle, were united in marriage July 19, 2008 by the Rev. Kenneth Fox at the State Road Advent Christian Church in Mapleton. The Rev. Greg Moody began the ceremony with a special prayer of blessing for the couple. Norma Johnson, aunt of the bride, provided the ceremony music. Scott Johnson, cousin of the bride, read a poem to the couple, which was written by Helen Finnemore, grandmother of the bride. Friend, Nancy Albert, read the bride’s favorite poem. One song selection was sung by Rebeckah Perry and another by Bernie Howes, friends of the bride. The reception immediately followed at the Shriners Hall in Presque Isle.
The bride is the daughter of Larry and Debbie Sawyer of Mapleton. The matron of honor was Jennifer Buzza, sister of the bride. The bridesmaids were friends of the bride: Penny Horne of Presque Isle, Karen Brooks of East Bridgewater, Mass.; Barb Fish of Taunton, Mass.; and Mary Goodwin of North Quincy, Mass. The flower girl was Madelyn Buzza, niece of the bride.
The groom is the son of David and Pam Powers of Presque Isle. The best man was Chuck Ames. The groomsmen were friends of the groom: Jim York of Presque Isle, Jesse Powers, cousin of the groom, of Boston; Mike Smith of Presque Isle, and Aaron Buzza, brother-in-law of the bride, of Mapleton. The ring bearer was Erik Smith, friend of the bride.
The bride is an English teacher at Presque Isle High School and the groom is a social studies teacher at Presque Isle High School. The couple honeymooned for a week in Athens, Greece and resides in Presque Isle.
